Clean-up has begun at Grayslake Central High School after a strong storm ripped through Lake County Sunday, damaging the school’s roof, windows and athletic fields.

Repairs will be underway this week and Superintendent Catherine Finger said in a letter to parents posted Monday on the district’s website that school officials were “confident” Grayslake Central would be open for the first day of school on Aug. 13.

Finger also asked people to refrain from visiting the high school campus and grounds to “give our crews maximum room to work,” according to the letter. Grayslake Central High School and District 127 Offices were closed Monday.

“We are so grateful to our D127 family, our community members, neighboring school districts, local businesses, and others for their offers of assistance in repairing the damage caused by the storm,” Finger wrote in the letter. “We are so thankful to be part of such a wonderful community.”
