Olympian Laura Zeng Touts Benefits Of Community College
Zeng, who attended the College of Lake County, shares her thoughts on her experience amid a very busy schedule, training.

Zeng, a rhythmic gymnast who competed in the last two Olympic games, enrolled at CLC in 2018 after graduating high school because it was local and convenient for her given her busy schedule.

“I mostly took online classes, but the few that I did take in-person were easy to manage and very accommodating,” Zeng said. “CLC offers an opportunity to continue your education without having to sacrifice other priorities. You can really customize and tailor the curriculum to your needs and interests, and I'm grateful for the time I spent here.”
CLC offers a mixture of in-person, online and blended courses, allowing students to create a flexible schedule to take classes on their time.

Not only did CLC make getting an education possible in her busy life, but it helped her obtain a quality education.
Though Zeng wasn’t often on campus because she took mostly online courses, she enjoyed being able to utilize different amenities that came with being a student at CLC like access to the library and printing.
“I'm grateful to CLC for offering such a wide range of classes, opportunities and amenities, so people in unique situations like mine can still benefit from higher education,” Zeng said. “From history to philosophy to legal studies, I really felt like I was able to explore whatever interested me. Community college courses are truly a public service: the offerings are diverse and open to people in all kinds of situations.”
