Disagreement Over PlayStation Led to Fatal Stabbing: Authorities

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 20-year-old man is accused of going to a Round Lake Beach home armed with a BB gun early Friday to collect money on a PlayStation he pawned to a person living there before shooting and fatally stabbing Mariana Castro-Tellez, 40, the Daily Herald is reporting. Bail was set at $2 million during a bond hearing Tuesday for 20-year-old Alonzo Campos, Jr., who is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the attack.

Police reportedly used video cameras in the area of the home in the 1500 block of Cherokee Drive to catch Campos walking to the home and then fleeing the area shortly after a 911 call was made at about 4:40 a.m. by a relative inside the home regarding shots being fired, according to the Daily Herald.

When authorities arrived, Castro-Tellez was found dead inside her home, according to a news release from the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

Sgt. Christopher Covelli, of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, said Monday that Campos knew the woman’s adult son.

Campos fled to his home following the incident and was taken into custody Friday evening, according to the news release. In court Tuesday, Assistant Lake County State's Attorney Russ Caskey said police confiscated a BB gun from Campos home and also found a knife that tested positive for blood located between Campos and Castro-Tellez’s home, according to the Daily Herald. They also allegedly found shoes, a sweatshirt and pants that tested positive for blood.

Police said Castro-Tellez appeared to have been shot several times with a BB gun. Preliminary autopsy results show she died from “injuries received from sharp force trauma,” Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper said in a statement Monday.
