Coroner IDs Fox Lake Teen Killed In Round Lake Shooting
A murder investigation is underway after a 17-year-old Fox Lake boy was fatally shot this past week in Round Lake.
ROUND LAKE, IL β The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified the 17-year-old boy killed in a shooting in Round Lake Beach this past week as Chad Greenenwald of Fox Lake.
Greenenwald died from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the coroner's office. Meanwhile, authorities are investigating the death as a murder after they say Greenenwald was shot in the area of Midland Drive and Sycamore Drive in Round Lake at about 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
At that time, Greenenwald was a passenger in a vehicle that stopped in that area β likely to meet someone. A driver and another passenger were also in the vehicle, and they were approached by at least one person on foot. The shooting happened shortly after that, according to a news release.

The driver then drove Greenenwald to a gas station in the area of Cedar Lake Road and Rollins Road in Round Lake Beach. At about 8:20 p.m., police officers received a 911 call and began searching for the cell phone that placed the call, according to the news release.
Authorities found the vehicle at the gas station with Greenenwald inside and transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
