D46 Negotiations Continue Monday Days After Strike Notice Filed
District 46 teachers filed a notice to strike Thursday. They will meet with the school board and a federal mediator Monday as talks continue
GRAYSLAKE, IL β Talks will continue Monday between the Community Consolidated School District 46 school board, the Grayslake Federation of Teachers and the Grayslake PSRP, which support District 46 staff, after both unions issued a notice of intent to strike last week, school officials said. The parties will meet with a federal mediator as they try to iron out conditions of their contract.
The earliest teachers could strike would be Thursday, Nov. 7, Superintendent Lynn Glickman wrote in a letter to parents. A strike could also occur on any day after if an agreement has not been met and parents may have very little notice prior to the strike.
"Certainly, it is hoped the Board of Education and the unions will come to an agreement, and the teachers and support staff will choose not to strike," Glickman said. The strike would force administrators to close schools, she said.
