Deputy Injured In Crash; 3 Drunken Drivers Arrested At Scene: Police
The crash happened at Route 21 and Grand Avenue in Gurnee on Saturday night.
GURNEE, IL — A Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy is recovering after a Saturday night crash in Gurnee that also led to the arrest of three drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
The collision happened at around 10:55 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Route 21 and Grand Avenue.
Preliminary reports show the deputy's squad car was headed south on Route 21 when a northbound Toyota SUV, driven by a 44-year-old Park City man, attempted a left turn onto westbound Grand Avenue and collided with the deputy’s squad car, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The deputy sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from a nearby hospital. The Toyota driver was not injured, police said.
While law enforcement blocked the intersection, three separate drivers bypassed traffic control points at different times, police said.

Authorities determined all three drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol and were arrested on the scene, according to the news release.
The crash remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
