District 46 Offering Free Full-Day Kindergarten For All
An increase in state funds will mean free kindergarten for District 46 families.

GRAYSLAKE, IL -- An increase in state funding will mean Consolidated Community School District 46 will offer free full-day kindergarten to all its families, according to media reports. The $401,000 in extra funds allocated to the school district comes from new state program called the evidence-based funding formula and will mainly go toward kindergarten funding. The Lake County-News Sun reports the district expects it will have to add two more teachers this fall but does not expect space to be an issue.
Superintendent Ellen Correll told the Lake County-News Sun the school district will continue to use its current curriculum. Under state requirements, District 46 will continue to offer half-day kindergarten but no one has yet signed up for that option, Correll said.
The first day of kindergarten students in District 46 is this Thursday, Aug. 23. Grades 1 through 8 start on Wednesday.
