DUI Charge Filed In Crash That Seriously Injured 2 Elderly Women

Christopher Uglinica, 19, of Volo, has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs following the two-vehicle crash.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 19-year-old Volo man faces a driving under the influence of drugs charge following a two-vehicle crash in May that left two elderly women with serious injuries.

Christopher Uglinica, of the 27400 block of Volo Village Road in Volo, is accused of driving while under the influence of a combination of drugs when he collided into a 2011 Honda sports utility vehicle as it was turning onto Route 12 in Volo at about 1:30 p.m. on May 26, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say the Honda, which was driven by Zinovi Marinets, 84, of the 2100 block of West Cortez Street in Chicago, failed to yield when turning left onto Route 12. A 2004 Ford pickup truck, driven by Uglinica, and headed north on Route 12 at the time, hit the rear of the Honda, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
