Sometimes called the greatest tenor of the 20th century, Jussi Bjorling (1911-1960) started singing at an early age, traveling with his father and brothers as the Bjorling Quartet; recordings were made in 1920. He studied at the Stockholm Conservatory in Sweden and made his official debut at the Royal Opera in 1930. After touring in Europe, he sang in Chicago and had his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1938. He sang in opera and recitals until shortly before his death in 1960.
See and hear a variety of his performances and recordings at the second presentation of the Sacred Space Music Series of the 2-11-2012 season, at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 285 Washington St, Grayslake, Illinois, on Sunday, February 26, from 3 to 4pm.
