Historically, the Collegium Musicum began as a music society in German and Swiss-German cities at the time of Luther’s Reformation. Dedicated to the discussion and presentation of music, these societies were usually composed of amateur enthusiasts, profession musicians and students.

Today, many Collegium Musicum exist throughout the world, some attached to major universities, many as local community organizations. Now the larger Grayslake area has its own Collegium Musicum hosted by Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church.

The Collegium Musicum is a sponsoring body to provide for the recognition and aspiration towards excellence as an expression of gratitude and praise for the gifts of the arts.

The purpose of the Sacred Space Music Series is to celebrate the gift of music at Shepherd of the Lakes by providing a variety of concerts for the members of Shepherd of the Lakes and community.
