Fifth Grade Student Late for School Prompts Lockdown in Round Lake Beach: Police

Raymond Ellis Elementary School in Round Lake Beach was placed on lockdown Friday morning.

ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL - A Round Lake Beach school was placed on lockdown Friday morning following a report of a suspicious subject entering an elementary school, bypassing the office and heading toward the classrooms.

The issue has since been resolved when police later learned the "suspicious subject" who entered Raymond Ellis Elementary School, 720 Central Park in Round Lake Beach, at about 8:37 a.m. was actually just a fifth-grade student who arrived late for school, according to a police department press release.

The school was immediately placed on lock down following the report of the suspicious subject and 911 was called.

Police units from Round Lake Beach, Round Lake, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to the school. Numerous other officers soon arrived and worked with school officials to resolve the situation, according to the news release.

"It was due to preplanning between the Police Department and School Officials, that a plan had already been put in place and was effectively carried out, and the situation resolved in a timely manner," Michael Scott, Deputy Chief for the Round Lake Beach Police Department, said in a news release.
