Flood Proofing Seminar Held This Week In Round Lake
The seminar will be held on Aug. 8 at Round Lake High School.

ROUND LAKE, IL β A seminar aimed at helping Lake County residents flood proof their homes will be held this week. Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is hosting the Flood Proofing seminar with Avon Township Supervisor Terry Wilke.
The seminar, which is being presented by the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Round Lake High School, 800 High School Drive in Round Lake.
βAs we learned in 2017, flooding can devastate property owners across the district,β Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, said. βOne of the best ways to keep flooding from damaging your property is by being proactive and taking steps to floodproof your home or business.β

At the seminar, the Stormwater Management Commission will present rainfall data, provide resources and tools for floodproofing, and discuss stormwater-related issues and concerns from the audience, according to a news release.
After the areas experienced heavy flooding in 2017, Yingling helped pass legislation that granted income tax credits to property owners who were affected by the floods.

βI have seen first-hand the pain that flooding causes families and business owners,β said Yingling. βWe must be prepared for flooding in the future, and seminars like this give residents a great opportunity to be ready and protect themselves when the next big storm comes.β
