Fugitive Arrested After Hitting Cop With Car in Round Lake Beach: Police

Cedric D. Brown of Waukegan was arrested Tuesday.

WAUKEGAN, IL -Β Waukegan police arrested a fugitive Tuesday accused of hitting a Round Lake Beach police officer with his car door over the weekend. Cedric D. Brown, 45, of the 1000 block of Pacifica in Waukegan, was taken into custody by Waukegan Police Department officers after he fled a Walmart on Sunday and has been on the lam since, authorities said.

Officers were called to Walmart, 2680 N. Illinois Route 83 in Round Lake Beach, at 12:34 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a retail theft. The responding officer saw the suspect get into his car and approached the vehicle, opening the door to apprehend the suspect, according to a Round Lake Beach Police Department press release.

At the same time, the suspect began backing up the car to flee, striking the officer with the open car door and knocking him to the ground. The offender, who was later identified as Cedric D. Brown of Waukegan, then fled the area in his car.

Police were able to locate the car that afternoon in Round Lake Heights. An arrest warrant was issued for Brown on charges of aggravated battery, resisting a peace officer and burglary and his bond was set at $500,000, the Daily Herald reports. He was taken into custody Tuesday morning by Waukegan police.
