GRAYSLAKE, IL — Several area residents have chipped in the cash needed to help get a Grayslake man who is currently homeless into a warm apartment over the winter. Less than a week ago, Holly Vires of Grayslake started a GoFundMe page asking that those who may have seen the man "in passing" help get him off the streets and into a safe home before Christmas.

"By the grace of God we found him a wonderful apartment that will be perfect to start now all we need is help raising the money to get him settled for a few months until he can take it over," Vires wrote on the GoFundMe page.

It didn't take long to come up with the $3,000 goal for a couple months of rent. And as of Wednesday afternoon, 110 donors have given $6,000 to cover rent for the man, whose name is Bill.

"We have raised enough money to pay his rent for quite a while and let him get the help and rest he so needs," Vires wrote.
