Gelatin Park Road, Bike Path Open
Village officials were on hand at the opening of the road, bike path and parking lot over the weekend. Gelatin Park will open in Nov.

Over the weekend, Grayslake Mayor Rhett Taylor and the Grayslake Board of Trustees were on hand for the opening of the new Gelatin Park road, parking lot, and bike path in the Village Center of Grayslake. The improvements are located at the old Grayslake Gelatin Company property on Railroad Avenue north of
Center Street, according to a news release.
The 10-acre parcel was purchased by the village for $30,000 in 2015. In 2016 and 2017 the vacant and blighted factory buildings were removed and hazardous environmental conditions on the site were abated.
In 2017, the Grayslake Board of Trustees approved plans to convert the space into a public park, including the preservation of the factory smokestack as a central feature. After a public survey for the naming of the new open space area, the name Gelatin Park was chosen.

A formal dedication of the new park is set to occur on Nov. 3rd.
“We’re excited,” Mayor Rhett Taylor said, “adding this 10 acres of open space will be a great addition to
the Village Center and we are looking forward to dedicating the rest of the park improvements when they are all complete later this fall.”
