Grayslake 8th Grader Spreads Joy by Donating Birthday Cake Kits to Local Food Pantries
Abby, 13, assembles cake kits with frosting, candles, and soda to help families celebrate birthdays, bringing sweetness and smiles.
GRAYSLAKE, IL — A Grayslake eighth grader is making birthdays sweeter for families in need by donating specially assembled cake kits to local food pantries, including the Avon Township pantry, through her small baking business.
Abby Mack, a 13-year-old who lives in Avon Township with her family, told her mother a couple months ago that she'd like to do something to give back to her community, according to NBC Chicago.
So, her and her mother came up with the idea to donate 26 birthday cake kits to a local food pantry.

"Making cakes is great thing even if does not turn out great," Abby said. "It brings joy to many people. Imagine not having a birthday cake for your family or even yourself? Everyone deserves a birthday cake on their birthday."
The kits include cake mix, frosting, soda and candles so families can celebrate birthdays even when resources are tight, and she hopes to provide about two dozen kits each month, according to media reports.
