Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake will get to remain open following an appellate court ruling last week that reversed a lower court’s decision, which would have forced the school to close, the Daily Herald reports. Gurnee-based Woodland Elementary District 50 went to court in 2014 with the hopes of overturning state commission’s decision to grant Prairie Crossing another charter.
Cook County Circuit Judge Thomas Allen sided with District 50 in March but the First District Appellate Court released an order on Thursday, which overturned Allen’s ruling, according to the article. Now, Prairie Crossing will continue to be able to operate until its charter is up for renewal again following the 2018-19 school year.

“We are very pleased with the appellate court’s order,” Prairie Crossing Executive Director Geoff Deigan told the Daily Herald. “We are anxious to put this in our rearview mirror. We have spent a considerable amount of (financial) resources defending our right to exist as a choice of public education in Lake County.”
