Grayslake High School Students Write Letters Of Hope To Elderly

GRAYSLAKE, IL – Grayslake Central High School students are reaching out to senior members of the community to share letters of hope and encouragement as they practice social distancing and self-isolation due to the new coronavirus outbreaks.

The high school decided to start a letter writing campaign for senior residents because of the negative effects quarantine has had on them.

"The elderly have been hit especially hard, as they are often quarantined in their rooms with little connection to the outside world," the school said in the campaign announcement.

Through the campaign, families are encouraged to drop off letters of hope and encouragement from Monday, May 18 through Friday, Mau 22 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in a box labeled "Letters for the Elderly" inside the GCHS main entrance.

Students and their families are encouraged to write as many letters as they like, without addressing them to a specific person. If writing is not their thing, students can also draw pictures to share with senior residents.
