On Saturday January 18th the Grayslake Wrestling Club traveled to Springfield, IL to compete in the 2014 IKWF Jon Davis Kids Open Wrestling Tournament on Sunday. This is a yearly tournament featuring some of the best wrestlers from the state of Illinois with over 1500 total wrestlers competing.
Thirteen wrestlers and their families from our club made the overnight trip. This is the clubs only overnight tournament that gives the kids and their families a chance to bond during a team dinner and playing in the hotel pool.
Eleven of the thirteen wrestlers brought home medals from 1st place to 5th place; 1st – Matthew Jens, 2nd – William Zander, Austin Connelly, Trell Firman, 3rd – Matthew Kubas, Michael Lewis, Joseph Jens, Ethan Torres, Jared Long, 4th – Tim McGraw, 5th – Barrett Beaird.

In the four years of our clubs this is the highest amount of wrestlers placing at the Kids Open tournament. With this strong showing the kids are now starting to prepare for the upcoming IKWF State Series starting in March.
