Hiring Center for Gurnee Portillo's to Open Soon

The new Portillo's will hire 200 employees.

Gurnee residents asked for it and now they will get it.

A Portillo’s restaurant is slated to open in November on Gurnee Mills Circle just northeast of Bass Pro Shops at Gurnee Mills. And in early August, Portillo’s will use a temporary hiring center inside entrance F in Gurnee Mills to hire 200 new employees for the new restaurant, according to a Portillo’s press release. 

“Gurnee residents have been asking us to come to their city for years,” said Portillo’s founder Dick Portillo. “We’re thrilled we’re finally coming to Gurnee.”

More than 4,500 people joined the “Gurnee Wants Portillo’s” Facebook page, which was started in 2013.

Portillo’s will invest $5 million to build its new Gurnee restaurant. The restaurant will feature a 1920s theme, two drive-thru lanes, seasonal outdoor seating, and will sell beer and wine.

“The village of Gurnee has been a great partner in this process,” said Portillo’s Chief Operating Officer Sherri Abruscato. “

The Portillo’s in Gurnee will be the northernmost Portillo’s.
