Juveniles Charged After Gun Discharged In Library Parking Lot: Police

No one was hit after the gun was fired in the parking lot of the Warren Newport Public Library in Gurnee, authorities said.

GURNEE, IL — Two juveniles are in custody after a gun was fired off in the parking lot of the Warren Newport Public Library Tuesday afternoon.

The Gurnee Police Department was called to the library at 224 N. O'Plaine Road in Gurnee at 3:36 p.m. for a report of a fight. When officers arrived, the juveniles had left the scene, authorities said.

After speaking with witnesses and reviewing video, officers learned several juveniles were involved in a physical fight in the far northwest corner of the library parking lot, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department. One of the juveniles produced a firearm and fired a round, causing everyone to flee the area.

No one was hit by a bullet, and no one was injured, police said.

Authorities took two juveniles into custody later Tuesday evening. Both juveniles have been referred to juveniles court on charges related to the firearm possession and shooting, according to the news release.
