Lake Co. Board Member Calls League Of Women Voters Members 'Hags'

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Lake County Board member has apologized to a local League of Women Voters groups for calling them "partisan hags."

Dick Barr made the comment in a Facebook post Tuesday night. Referring to the group as the League of Women Democrats, he said his anger with the group stems from his frustrations with the League's forums and debate format, which he says favors Democratic candidates.

"Talk about a waste of time and a waste of space. Stop giving these hags more power than their paper thin virtue signaling commands," Barr wrote about the local League if Women Voters.

On Thursday, he apologized.

"My comments did nothing to help with building unity in our communities," he wrote in a Facebook post. . "While I vehemently maintain that the League is highly partisan, and biased, the characterization that they are 'hags' was uncalled for."

Barr is a member of the Lake County Board, representing District 3, which includes all of Lindenhurst and Round Lake Heights and portions of Round Lake Beach and Lake Villa. Barr has been a member of the Lake County Board since 2018.
