Lake Co. Caretaker Charged With Exploiting Elderly Woman Out Of $150K: Authorities
Harold A. Boyle is accused of accessing a 77-year-old woman's accounts and stealing funds over three-month period, officials say.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A Lake County man has been charged with multiple felonies after authorities say he financially exploited an elderly woman out of more than $150,000 while acting as her caretaker, according to authorities.
The Lake & McHenry County Scanner is reporting Harold A. Boyle, 53, has been charged with four Class 1 felony counts, including financial exploitation of the elderly involving more than $15,000 and theft by deception involving $100,000 to $150,000, officials said.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office began investigating the alleged fraud in April after a credit union reported to police they had an elderly customer who may be the victim of a financial crime. Prosecutors allege Boyle gained access to the 77-year-old woman's financial accounts after she added him as a caretaker and stole more than $150,000 over a three-month period, police told the Scanner.
