Lake Co. Detective Undergoes Surgery After Drug Dealer Injures His Ankle During Arrest: Police
Phillip Trotter is accused of resisting arrest and injuring the detective on Aug. 4.

A Lake County Sheriff’s Office detective ended up undergoing surgery after an accused drug dealer resisted arrest during an undercover narcotics operation last week, according to police. Phillip Trotter, 27, of the 2000 block of Glen Flora Avenue in Waukegan, now faces several charges following his Aug. 4 arrest.
The arrest came after Trotter arrived at a location in Waukegan where he allegedly sold heroin to an undercover Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force detective, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
Following the transaction, members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force attempted to apprehend Trotter and he resisted arrest. While Trotter was resisting, one of the task force detectives suffered serious injuries to his ankle, police said.
Following the struggle, Trotter was taken into custody without further incident. Police said they found cocaine on Trotter, which was “packaged in a manner indicative of being for sale,” according to the news release.
