Lake Co. Flooding Woes Addressed at Public Info Meeting

Lake County residents can receive flood-proofing tips at the Sept. 17 meeting in Gurnee.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Lake County residents can get more information on how to protect themselves and their businesses against flooding at an upcoming public information meeting. Local officials will host the meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Warren-Newport Public Library, 224 N. O'Plaine Road in Gurnee.

Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart, Lake County District 7 Board Member Steve Carlson, Gurnee Mayor Krysti Kovarik and the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) will be on hand at the meeting and will provide flood-proofing tips and share information about how increased rainfall is impacting Lake County, according to a news release.

“Lake County has been experiencing more frequent and stronger rainfall events, which not only impacts the residents and business owners of Lake County, but also public and private development projects,” according to the press release.

The Storm Management Commission will present floodproofing tips businesses and homeowners can use to help safeguard their property, share data on the increased rainfall Lake County is receiving, provide resources and tools for best practices, and answer questions from the audience.
