Local Officials Gathered for a Continued Call for Peace in Lake County
In the wake of the tragic death of Mr. George Floyd, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, pain is being felt by so many across our country. Weβve witnessed peaceful protests and weβve seen criminal activity right here in our hometowns. We thank all of those who have made the choice to use their voices in a peaceful yet powerful way that honors the memory of Mr. Floyd. It is these brave actions in speaking up that will bring change to this nation.
Freedom of speech is a fundamental right, and citizens are encouraged to let their voices be heard. Last week, Lake County Vice Chair Mary Ross-Cunningham, Chair Sandy Hart, and City of Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham stood together to ask for continued peace for our community. Governor J.B. Pritzker recently declared a disaster proclamation for Lake County, in addition to other counties throughout Illinois, due to the vandalism that took place last week. Lake Countyβs critical infrastructure was a large part of Gov. Pritzkerβs decision to include our county.
