Lake Co. Sex Offender Charged With Possession Child Porn

A 64-year-old registered sex offender was arrested last week for possessing child pornography.

John Rambert, of North Chicago, is charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, which are Class 2 felonies. Rambert remained in custody on a $400,000 bail Monday morning, according to online jail records.

His arrest Friday marked the second time Rambert has been charged with a crime involving a child, according to a Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office press release. In 2000, he was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse to a child.

On Friday, police conducted a search of Rambert’s residence located on Waukegan Road. The defendant was arrested after evidence of alleged child pornography was discovered, according to prosecutors. 

“This is the third offender arrested in the last month, two of which were previously registered sex offenders. We will continue to pursue these criminals who exploit children in Lake County,” State’s Attorney Michael Nerheim said in a news release.

Rambert has also been charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of a drug, obstructing justice/destroy evidence, theft/control intent and possession of marijuana.
