Lake Co. Treasurer Offers Free Financial Literacy Class

The Lake County Treasurer's Office is teaming up with First Midwest Bank and Restoration America to offer the classes.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Free financial literacy courses are being offered in the coming weeks for Lake County residents. The Lake County Treasurer’s Office, First Midwest Bank and Restoration America are offering the classes, which start Thursday, Aug. 1, according to a news release from the Lake County's Treasurer Office.

The classes are meant to help residents develop stronger understanding of basic financial concepts so they can better handle their money. The three free classes will be held at The University Center, 1200 University Center Drive in Grayslake.

The first class, which is titled "Keep it Safe," will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, according to the news release. The second classes will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, and is titled, "Securing Your Identity," and the last class will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, and is titlted, "Financial Recovery," according to the news release.

Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim says it's important to empower residents and equip them with the tools to make smarter financial decisions.

“One of my goals was to raise awareness about the importance of financial education such as, knowing how to make a budget and living within your means," Kim said. "We appreciate this partnership with First Midwest and Restoration America and look forward to offering this to our residents for years to come."
