Leading Autism Authority to Speak at College of Lake County

Dr. Jane Thierfeld Brown will share information on how to help autistic children success in college during the March 13 presentation.

GRAYSLAKE, IL β€” Helping students with autism succeed in college will be the topic of a community presentation held in March at the College of Lake County's Grayslake Campus. Jane Thierfeld Brown, a leading authority on autism in higher education, will speak starting at 6:30 p.m. on March 13 in Room T326 at the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington Street in Grayslake. Brown is assistant clinical professor in the Yale Child Study program of the Yale University Medical School, according to a news release.

She also is director of the Connecticut-based College Autism Spectrum, an independent organization of professionals who assist students with autism spectrum disorders as well as their families.

Brown previously served as director of student services at the University of Connecticut School of Law. Having worked in disability services for 39 years, she holds an Ed.D. from Columbia University’s Teachers College. She also consults nationwide with families, students, school districts and institutions of higher education.

Dr. Brown has appeared on ABC’s β€œGood Morning America,” CBS News and NPR. She has co- authored β€œStudent with Asperger’s: A Guide for College Professionals” and β€œThe Parent’s Guide to College for Students on the Autism Spectrum.” Additionally, she has co-authored β€œBehavior Management and Self-Regulation” and many textbook chapters and articles.

Dr. Brown is a parent of a 26-year-old son with autism.
