Local Politician Sounds Off On Roe V. Wade Decision
Sen. Melissa Bush, D-Grayslake, says "there's a war against woman."

GRAYSLAKE, IL — Sen. Melissa Bush, D-Grayslake, sounded off on Friday regarding her thoughts on the Supreme Court's move to overturn Roe v. Wade. She said the decision to ban abortion "stripped millions of women across the nation from their right to choose."
“I am appalled, disgusted and disheartened. To be frank, I am speechless. While the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court comes at no surprise, I’m faced with a shock of emotion I never wanted to feel – and that’s because, despite it being 2022, there’s a war against women," Bush said in a statement.
Regardless of Friday's decision from the Supreme Court, Illinois will remain one of at least 13 states across the U.S. where abortion will remain legal after the ruling became official. After the leaked Supreme Court ruling was published by Politico in early May, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and other state lawmakers made it clear that Illinois will remain a safe harbor for women who want to have an abortion going forward.

Bush called Illinois a "safe haven" for women.
“Because of this decision, people will suffer and women will die. I am in complete dismay that this is where we are as a country. While I can go to sleep each night knowing women in Illinois are protected from the heinous ramifications of the ruling, it devastates me that women across the country don’t have the same freedom. To those women: Illinois is your safe haven. We welcome you with open arms," she said.

Bush is among other politicians and state leaders planning to speak during a Planned Parenthood press conference at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Planned Parenthood of Illinois Administrative offices, 17 N. State in Chicago.
"Abortion is and will remain legal in Illinois even though every state that borders Illinois will quickly move to ban or severely restrict abortion access," according to a statement from Planned Parenthood.
