Man Critically Injured When Hit by Ambulance: Police

The Beach Park man suddenly ran into the pathway of the ambulance early Sunday, police said.

A 20-year-old Beach Park man was critically injured early Sunday when he was hit by an ambulance.

Police said Andre Perez of Beach Park suddenly ran into the path of a Zion Fire Department ambulance in the area of Sheridan Road and Beach Road in Beach Park at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The ambulance was traveling without its emergency lights or sirens activated.

Paramedics on board the ambulance immediately began life saving efforts on Perez who was later transported to Advocate Condell Hospital in critical condition.

No charges have been filed at this time pending toxicology results. The investigation continues through the Lake County Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigation Unit.
