Man Critically Injured While Crossing Street Near Grayslake

The Round Lake Beach man was crossing the street after being involved in a minor crash near Route 60 and Fairfield Road.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 28-year-old Round Lake Beach man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car while crossing the street following a collision.

Authorities say the man was involved in a minor two-vehicle crash at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday in the area of Route 60 and Fairfield Road in unincorporated Grayslake and was outside the vehicle assessing it for damage and speaking with the other person involved in the crash, according to the news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

A short time later, he crossed the street to return to his vehicle and was hit by a 2002 Lexus IS300, according to police. The car was driven by an 18-year-old Wauconda man.

The Round Lake Beach man was taken by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
