Man Who Drowned In Lake Is Police Officer: Authorities
The 49-year-old man who died after going under water while swimming with friends has been identified.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Round Lake Beach man who drowned while swimming with friends in Petite Lake has been identified as a Palatine Police Department Officer. Victor Lopez, 49, went under water while at an area known as "The Sandbar" on Friday evening, authorities said.
On Sunday, Lake County authorities confirmed Lopez was a police officer for the Palatine Police Department, the Daily Herald is reporting. Preliminary autopsy results show Lopez died from drowning, according to a statement from the Lake County Coroner's Office.
Lopez had been swimming in the lake at about 5:45 p.m. when his friends noticed he was missing and began searching for him, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

They found him under water and unconscious near their boat, pulled him from the water and began performing CPR on the man, according to the news release. They then brought him to shore where emergency personnel and performed CPR on the man and used an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on him.
The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to a news release. Deputies found no immediate signs of trauma or foul play and an autopsy will be scheduled with the Lake County Coroner's Office.
