Man Likely Died Of Natural Causes Prior To Crash: Coroner

A 72-year-old man went off Route 83 near Antioch and crashed into a tree, authorities said.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Authorities believe a 72-year-old man who was found unresponsive in his car following a crash near Antioch Wednesday morning died from natural causes.

The collision happened at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe went off the roadway and ran into a tree in the front yard of a home in the 40600 block of Illinois Route 83 in Antioch Township, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

First responders found the man unresponsive inside the vehicle and attempted life-saving measures. The 72-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy completed on Thursday show the man "likely died from natural causes, which possibly caused the crash," according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing, authorities said.
