Motorcyclist Killed In Crash Near Antioch

The collision happened at Lake and Hillcrest avenues in unincorporated Antioch Saturday afternoon.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A motorcyclist has died following a collision over the weekend near Antioch.

The crash happened at about 2:20 p.m. on Saturday at Lake Avenue and Hillcrest Avenue in unincorporated Antioch.

Authorities say a Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 60-year-old Wisconsin man, was headed south on Lake Avenue, approaching Hillcrest Avenue, when a Volkswagen Tiguan made a left turn in front of the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, who has been identified as Mark Basil, 60, of Salem, Wisconsin, was thrown from the motorcycle, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he later died. Preliminary results from an autopsy show Basil died from blunt force injuries, according to a news release.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 29-year-old Antioch woman, was also taken to Condell Medical Center for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
