New Target Store Slated For East Rollins Road
A new Target store will be opening in a former Super K-Mart building in Round Lake Beach, village officials announced this past week.
ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL — A new Target store will be opening in a former Super K-Mart building in Round Lake Beach, village officials announced this past week.
Currently, Grayslake and Round Lake area residents need to travel to Gurnee or Mundelein for the nearest Target. The 190,000-square-foot facility, which has remained empty since KMart closed in December 2013, will offer a closer location for many at 400 East Rollins Road in Round Lake Beach.
This acquisition, village officials said, marks the beginning of a significant revitalization project for the Rollins Crossing Shopping Center.

Following years of inactivity, Round Lake Beach officials took steps to legally condemn the property, which was deemed by residents and village officials as an "eyesore," according to a news release form the village of Round Lake Beach.
However, before the conclusion of those proceedings, Target stepped in to acquire the property, village officials said.

The sale of the property to Target was finalized in late December 2025.
Round Lake Beach Mayor Scott Nickles said the redevelopment of this site was a primary goal for him since he took office in 2021.
"It took a lot of time, a ton of work by village staff and village attorneys, but we are delighted to be able to announce the first step of this goal has been completed," Nickles said. "This process has been more than a decade in the making, so we are thrilled to announce something is finally happening with this site. This is a great day for Round Lake Beach."
Gil Rivera, the village’s Director of Building, Economic and Community Development, said Target has already submitted permits to demolish the current structure, signaling the end of the building's deterioration. He added new construction timelines, architectural plans and other information are undefined at this point.
"We are pleased to see progress on the property and look forward to a plan that will transform the area as it begins to take shape,” Rivera said.
Nickles added that the Village has long believed that Rollins Crossing could be revitalized into a project that serves as a true "village retail center" for the community.
"We are on the cusp of making it happen," said Nickles.
