Nine Elementary School Students Injured in School Bus Crash

The school bus became sandwiched between two semi trucks following the collision Wednesday afternoon in Beach Park.

BEACH PARK, IL - Nine elementary school children were hurt when a semi truck rear-ended a school bus in Beach Park Wednesday afternoon. The school bus was then pushed into another semi truck that was stopped in front of the bus on Green Bay Road just south of Major Avenue in Beach Park at 3:04 p.m., according to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office press release.

There were 56 children on board the school bus and nine were taken to Vista East and Vista West hospitals for non-life threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the school bus and drivers of the semi trucks all refused medical treatment.

Beach Park school district officials arrived on the scene and arranged for the uninjured children to be transported to Kenneth Murphy School in Beach Park.

The driver of the semi that collided with the bus, Milos Ostojic, 55, of the 900 block of Clark Drive in Gurnee, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no proof of insurance and no driver’s license on person.
