Man Shot Estranged Wife During Argument, Dragged Her Body Behind a Bush: Officials

A Wisconsin man is in custody at the Lake County Jail on a $3 million bond after being charged with the murder of his estranged wife in Gurnee. 

David M. Brocksom is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Beata J. Brocksom, 48.

The domestic-related attack occurred early Sunday when Brocksom told officials he drove from Wisconsin Dells to Gurnee after one of his kids told him his wife had been abusive, according to the Chicago Tribune. He arrived in Gurnee at 4 a.m. Sunday where he confronted Beata.

The two argued and Beata struck David with an object, knocking him unconscious. When he woke up he told officials Beata was standing over him with a gun, according to the article. The two struggled over the gun and David Brocksom said during the struggle, the gun went off and struck Beata in the chin.

She fled and the struggle continued in the yard where David Brocksom said Beata stopped breathing, the newspaper reports. Authorities said he dragged her body behind a bush and fled.

Police were called to the home in the 3700 block of Pacific Ave. in Gurnee at 9:25 a.m. Sunday where they found Beata’s body. They named David Brocksom as a “person of interest” in the homicide. David Brocksom was taken into custody later that day after police pulled him over while he was driving toward the Gurnee Police Department around 7:45 p.m.

David Brocksom, who lives in Kenosha, Wis., sought orders of protection against his wife twice in 2013, according to online court records. He filed for divorce in 2011.
