Police Release Results of St. Paddy's Day DUI Crackdown in Lake County

The Lake County Sheriff's Office issued 154 citations during the holiday enforcement effort.

The results are in from the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” holiday crackdown on drunk drivers in Lake County.

During the St. Patrick’s Day holiday week, reducing the deadly dangers from drunk drivers was a top priority as the Lake County Sheriff's Office was out in full force. The sheriff's office was also looking for those who violated seat belt laws, according to a news release. 

During the enforcement effort, the sheriff's office issued a total of 154 citations, including 40 for seat belt violations and five for driving while license suspended. In addition, officers arrested six for DUI and made two drug arrests and one warrant arrest.

“The Lake County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with other local and state law enforcement highway safety partners in Illinois for this St Patrick’s Weekend enforcement campaign. The increased patrols during the holiday weekend ensured our roadways were safe for motorists," Lake County Undersheriff Ray Rose said in the news release. 

The St. Patrick’s Day "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Crackdown" was funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through IDOT’s Division of Transportation Safety.
