Politician Hosts Free Electronics Recycling Event on Earth Day

GRAYSLAKE, IL - From Representative Sam Yingling: To help residents dispose of outdated, unwanted electronic devices, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is hosting an electronic drop-off event at his district office, located at 1919 Route 83 in Round Lake Beach, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Earth Day, April 22.

“Because computers, televisions and other electronics contain hazardous materials, they can’t legally be hauled off to a landfill with the rest of your trash,” said Yingling. “Earth Day is a yearly reminder of the importance of safe recycling methods, not just for paper and plastic but for electronics as well.”

Yingling’s office will be collecting electronic devices for recycling from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Earth Day, April 22 at no cost to residents. In addition to saving space in landfills, recycling e-waste prevents air pollution from toxic materials. Yingling is currently leading efforts to crack down on companies that have been emitting potentially toxic levels of ethylene oxide into the air.

“Ethylene oxide emissions in our air are putting our community at risk,” said Yingling. “My legislation regulates the use of ethylene oxide in Illinois and requires public notice of potentially harmful emissions levels to help keep families safe.”
