Richardson Adventure Farm Reveals Corn Maze Design

SPRING GROVE, IL -- I know. It's still summer and too early to start talking about pumpkins and apple orchards and FALL. But Richardson Adventure Farm in Spring Grove recently released an aerial view of this year's corn-maze creation, which celebrates the Bicentennial of the State of Illinois.

And, here it is:

In selecting and creating the design for its corn maze, which Richardson's touts as the "world's largest corn maze," Richardson reps write on their website:

It was difficult to make the corn maze in the shape of Illinois, so we chose to represent the top portion of the State with Lake Michigan on the right side, with a sailboat in the lake and Chicago with Navy Pier ferris wheel.
On the left we have the Mississippi River with the bridge to Dubuque, a barge going up the river, and the St. Louis arch down below. In the center, some farming operations and the State capitol building with Abe Lincoln’s head above.

The corn maze is made up of nine to ten miles of winding trail through 28 acres of live corn. The maze is actually created out of four smaller mazes. Each one has its own dedicated in and out path. There are multiple checkpoints throughout the maze as well as three bridges meant to help you "find your bearings while looking at the map."

"Finding the checkpoints is the challenge and the way to solve the maze, but if you have had enough and need to get out and get a fresh donut or a cup of hot chocolate for added strength and stamina, you can find your way out in just minutes. There is a perimeter path surrounding the entire maze and there are no dead ends in this maze," according to Richardson's website.

Richardson Adventure Farm, located at 909 English Prairie Road, is slated to open on Sept. 1.
