Round Lake Beach Takes Steps to Address Foreclosures, ‘Zombie’ Properties
About 8 percent of the total housing units in Round Lake Beach are foreclosures or vacant/abandoned homes.

ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL - Round Lake Beach is taking steps to clean up its neighborhoods by looking at ways to address a high number of foreclosures and vacant homes currently on the market in the town.
The Round Lake Beach Village Board this past week approved a program aimed identifying, registering and regulating properties that are considered a public nuisance, according to the Daily Herald. A 13-page amendment to the village code sets up various guidelines with the overall goal to either get the property owner to make upgrades to the property or finding a way to have the home acquired or demolished.
At any given time, there are 500 foreclosures on the market in Round Lake Beach, and the village estimates about 8 percent of its total properties are made up of foreclosures or “zombie” properties which are vacant or abandoned homes, according to the newspaper.
