School Days

I believe Illinois is pretty much on the same page with the start of school dates. Everyone of our little darlings are back in school or starting out for the first time.

Way back in the Dark Ages when I went to school, it started the day after Labor Day and the weekend was really the end of summer, regardless what the calendar said. Hey, remember when you could not wear white after Labor Day, especially white shoes?  Yep, that is how old I am.

Wisconsin still adheres to school opening up right after Labor Day. Even the college kids get the extra week or so to prepare for another year of classes.

I have enjoyed seeing everyone on Facebook posting pics of their kids on the first day of school. Kindergarten through high school marking their departure for new adventures.

School supplies, registration, activity fees, new wardrobes (out of necessity or immense joy), and snack/lunch shopping costs a fortune. Every year our daughters were in school, my husband would comment as I wrote the checks about "free public education".  Don't even get him started about college tuition. Been there, done that!
