Should Voters Be Able to Pick the Lake County Board Chairman?
Lake County remains the only county in the Chicago area that does not allow voters to elect its county board chairman.

LAKE COUNTY, IL - The Lake County Board on Tuesday supported a measure that would allow voters in the county decide whether they should be able to directly elect the board’s chairman.
Current Lake Co. Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor championed the proposed amendment to legislation that is already in the state Senate that, if passed, would require the chairman be elected by voters in the county, according to the Daily Herald. Currently, Lake County Board members elect the chairman and Lawlor thinks the voters have the right to decide if, moving forward, they would like to be responsible for electing the chairman.
“It’s critical to give voters the final say,” Lawlor said.
