Six Flags this past week banned the use of selfie sticks at its parks across the United States, including its Great America theme park in Gurnee.
Only two weeks ago, Disney also banned selfie sticks from its parks and Six Flags has since followed suit. In a statement from Six Flags, Theme Park Insider reports the ban also includes monopods and other similar devices.

The statement reads:
Nothing is more important to us than your safety. After careful review we’ve decided to prohibit selfie sticks, monopods, and similar devices at all Six Flags theme and water parks effective immediately. Guests who bring selfie sticks to the park will be asked to store them in their cars during their visit. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes, and thank you for helping us keep Six Flags among the safest theme parks in the world.

Katy Enrique, communications manager for Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, told the Daily Herald the hope is to prevent any incidents involving the devices.
“We strive to provide the safest possible environment in our parks, and these devices pose a safety risk to guests and employees,” Enrique told the newspaper.
