Teen Girl Killed After Being Struck By Freight Train In Mundelein

Authorities say the 15-year-old was fatally hit by the train Saturday afternoon near East Park Street.

MUNDELEIN, IL — A 15-year-old girl was struck and killed by a freight train Saturday afternoon in downtown Mundelein, authorities said.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 2:16 p.m. near the 200 block of East Park Street along Canadian National Railway tracks, according to the Daily Herald.

Responding agencies, including Mundelein police and fire officials, found the teen at the scene, where she was pronounced dead, according to the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. The Lake County Coroner’s Office later confirmed the victim’s identity and determined she died from injuries consistent with being struck by a train.
