Round Lake Beach Boy, 14, Seriously Injured After Car Hits His Scooter

The 14-year-old boy was riding his scoter in Round Lake Beach when he drove into a roadway, was hit by a car.

ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL β€” A teen was seriously injured after a car hit his scooter Thursday afternoon in Round Lake Beach.

Authorities say the 14-year-old boy was riding a non-motorized scooter on Civic Center Way north of Rollins Road at about 3:30 p.m. when he rode into the street and was hit by a passing vehicle, according to a news release from the Round Lake Beach Police Department.

The teen was transported from the scene by the Greater Round Lake Area Fire Protection District to Advocate Condell Medical Center. He was then take by helicopter to Ann and Robert Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.

His official condition is not currently known, police said.

The driver could not stop in time to avoid hitting the juvenile, and the vehicle had the right-of-way, according to the news release. Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash but the driver did agree to undergo blood and urine testing.

The Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County is assisting the Round Lake Beach Police Department in investigating the collision.
