Teen Flown To Hospital After Firework May Have Sparked Vehicle Fire: Fire Officials

Fire crews say a firework may have ignited the pickup, leaving the teen with serious burns and the vehicle destroyed.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A teenage boy who was seriously burned and flown to the hospital after a firework may have ignited a vehicle blaze over the weekend, leaving a pickup truck fully engulfed in flames in Lake County, according to media reports.

Fire crews from the Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Lakemoor Police Department responded to Darrell Road and Wagon Trail Road in Lakemoor around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Lake & McHenry County Scanner. They found the teen with serious burn injuries and transported him to the helipad at Northwestern Hospital in McHenry.

He was then taken by helicopter to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. Fire officials said they believe his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Fire officials were told a firework may have ignited inside the car, but the exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation, the Daily Herald is reporting.
