thredUP Opens First Midwest Distribution Center in Vernon Hills
The distribution center has opened in Vernon Hills.

thredUP, the largest online marketplace for buying and selling secondhand women's and children's apparel, has opened its first distribution center in the Midwest in Vernon Hills, the company announced Monday.
thredUP has leased a 145,000-square foot facility at 100 Lakeview Parkway in Vernon Hills where the company currently employs 145 full-time staffers with plans to hire a total of 300 employees by the end of 2016, according to a news release.
“We've chosen Vernon Hills, Illinois because we believe its location is ideal for us to continue to improve the thredUP experience for our customers,” said John Voris, Chief Operating Officer at thredUP. “The team we’ve hired is deeply engaged in our mission to inspire a new generation of consumers to think secondhand first. We’re excited to bring on a high quality workforce, and thredUP is supportive of the economic development of the community."

The new distribution center should allow thredUP to offer faster shipping transit times and increase the amount of localized, seasonally relevant inventory available to its customers, according to a news release. The Vernon Hills distribution center will serve s a model for thredUP’s continued operational expansion over the next few years.
The Vernon Hills center is thredUP's third in the country. thredUP's other distribution centers are located in San Leandro, Calif., and Mechanicsburg, Penn.

Vernon Hills Mayor Roger Byrne said the village is thrilled to have thredUP open its distribution center in town.
