Truck Carrying Caramel Crashes on I-94

The crash injured the driver and caused 35,000 pounds of caramel to spill.

A semitrailer transporting caramel crashed on Interstate 94 near Wadsworth Monday afternoon, the Daily Herald reports.

The crash left the truck driver, Gejza Pitel, 66, of Schiller Park, with injuries and caused 35,000 pounds of caramel to spill into a nearby ditch, according to the article. The crash occurred when the truck swerved from the far right lane to the far left lane at about 3:30 p.m. and then went into the ditch. The truck hit a light pole and flipped onto its side.

Pitel was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, the newspaper reports.
